The Dodgers are in New York for Game 3 of the World Series at Yankee Stadium. Before diving in, let’s recap how they built their 2-0 lead in Los Angeles.

A key factor in their success is the offense, which is hitting .248/.340/.451 this postseason, leading the league with a 121 wRC+, 24 home runs, and an average of 6.15 runs per game. They achieved five extra-base hits in each of the first two games against the Yankees, becoming just the second Dodgers team to do so in a World Series, the first being Brooklyn in 1953.

This year, the Dodgers are only the eighth team to record consecutive games with five or more extra-base hits in the same World Series and the first since the Astros in 2017. The only team with three straight games like this in the World Series was the Oakland Athletics in their 1989 sweep.

Ohtani suffered a left shoulder subluxation in the seventh inning of the Dodgers’ 4-2 win in Game 2 when he slid into second base during an unsuccessful steal attempt. Fortunately, he should be able to play in Game 3.

The Yankees, apart from their big three players, are struggling at the plate, hitting just .174/.269/.196. In two games, they have managed only one extra-base hit, a double by Gleyber Torres. They’ve scored one run, which came from Jazz Chisholm Jr. after he stole two bases off Blake Treinen. Additionally, Anthony Volpe drove in the only RBI with a groundout.

Dodgers vs Yankees Game 3: pitchers, lineups

New York Yankees

Pitcher

Clarke Schmidt has a record of 5-5 and a 2.85 ERA during the regular season. He will be making his third career postseason start and his first in the World Series.

In his previous two outings this October, he pitched 4 2/3 innings each time, allowing two runs in both games but earning no decisions against the Royals and Guardians. Throughout the regular season, Schmidt had a 4.50 ERA in eight home starts, while he boasted a much lower 1.39 ERA in eight road appearances.

Los Angeles Dodgers

Pitcher

Walker Buehler (1-6, 5.38 ERA in the regular season) had an unexpected regular season after returning from a second Tommy John surgery. However, he has performed strongly in the postseason for the Dodgers. His final line against the Padres in NLDS Game 3 may look unfavorable, but it doesn’t reflect his overall performance. He rebounded well in a crucial Game 3 of the NLCS, pitching four scoreless innings against the Mets.

Buehler has consistently been a strong postseason performer, and his next challenge will be tough: helping the Dodgers secure a more commanding series lead in the Bronx.
