Dodgers Yoshinobu Yamamoto solid in his return to the mound
The Los Angeles team’s rookie pitcher returned to game action against the Cubs after spending over 60 days out with a right shoulder injury.
The Los Angeles Dodgers have activated Yoshinobu Yamamoto to return to the mound after spending 60 days on the injured list and designated Nick Ramirez for assignment to make room on the 40-man roster. The rookie pitcher from Japan has not pitched since suffering a rotator cuff strain on June 15 when he started against the Royals.
Yoshinobu Yamamoto's numbers
Yoshinobu Yamamoto made 14 starts in his first year in the majors and returned to the mound on Tuesday for Game 2 of the series against the Chicago Cubs at Dodger Stadium. He faced fellow countryman Shota Imanaga in his first game back from injury.
Yamamoto struck out eight batters in a stunning four-inning, one-run return, but the Dodgers anyways lost 6-3 to the Cubs at Dodger Stadium. The game was marred by numerous defensive slipups, including three errors in a decisive five-run eighth inning.
So far, in the 2024 Major League Baseball campaign, the Japanese player has pitched to a 2.94 ERA and 2.62 FIP in 74 innings. The right-hander has struck out 27.9 percent of the batters he has faced and will once again serve as the second in the pitching rotation for the final stretch of the regular season.
The 26-year-old pitcher’s return is positive news for Dodgers manager Dave Roberts, who has been without injured Tyler Glasnow, Clayton Kershaw, and Gavin Stone recently.
The Los Angeles franchise will look to maintain first place in the National League West Division and secure a postseason spot as soon as possible.
