Freddie Freeman gets a warm welcome and a World Series ring in return to Atlanta
Freddie Freeman may now be with the Los Angeles Dodgers, but Braves fans still welcomed him warmly in Atlanta, where he received his World Series ring.
Freddie Freeman has signed up to be first baseman with the Dodgers, but he still received a warm welcome on his return to Atlanta where the Braves are hosting Los Angeles in a weekend series, and where he received his ring for the 2021 World Series.
It was the first time for the 32-year-old to return to Truist Park after entering free agency in the offseason. He was visibly emotional during the press conference, talking about what the Braves and their fans meant to him.
Freddie Freeman: ‘I love the Braves’
“Give me a second, I don’t know if I can get through this,” Freeman said as he fought back tears.
“I’m just happy to be back. This organization, the people, the media people who covered my family with grace and love over the last 12 years. It’s hard,” he said.
“I love the Braves organization with all my heart. That will never change,” said Freeman.
The five-time MLB All-Star made his debut with the Braves in 2010 and played with them for 12 seasons. He was part of their successful World Series campaign last year where they prevailed over the Houston Astros to win the trophy.
Atlanta gives Freeman a standing ovation
The 2020 National League MVP received a standing ovation from Truist Park when he was presented with his championship ring. He was once again overcome with emotion as he spoke to the fans.
“I know I’ve got a different uniform on, but I still love each and every one of you guys,” he said.

Freeman and the Braves were in talks before he became a free agent, but Atlanta eventually traded for Matt Olson in March. The three-time Silver Slugger awardee is now on a six-year, $162 million contract with the Dodgers.
