Update:
Former New York Yankees third baseman Gio Urshela has been traded for the second consecutive offseason, this time to the Los Angeles Angels.

The Los Angeles Angels have acquired Colombian infielder/ third baseman Giovanny Urshela, as the team officially reported through their social networks.

The agreement with the Minnesota Twins involves a trade for Venezuelan Minor League pitcher Alejandro Hidalgo, and Urshela would take the place of Anthony Rendon who suffered an injury.

Let’s remember that Urshela only joined the Twins last season, after having been active for three seasons with the New York Yankees.

Urshela managed to set personal records in 144 games played and in hits (143) during 2022.

The Colombian batted .285/.338/.429 with 13 home runs included, 27 doubles and 64 RBIs during his stint with the Minnesota ninth.

It is expected that with his move to the Los Angeles Angels the 31-year-old will have a salary increase that amounts to $9.2 million for the following year.

He meets old acquaintances

One point to note is that Angels manager Phil Nevin and hitting coach Marcus Thames know him perfectly, having been with the Yankees when Urshela 3B belonged to the Bronx Bombers.

With the Yankees, he fully fulfilled the role of third base, but the injuries to Gleyber Torres in 2022 forced him to seek versatility as a shortstop in Major League Baseball.
