Harper one of many MLB players against the new pitch clock
Bryce Harper is not a fan of MLB’s new pitch clock, and he made that pretty clear with his comments on the matter, but he’s certainly not alone.
Major League Baseball’s new pitch clock limits time between pitches to 15 seconds with bases empty and 20 with runners on the bases. It has sped up the game significantly, shedding around 26 minutes off the average time of a game during spring training. The managers and fans of MLB seem to be trying to remain positive where the new pitch clock is concerned, but the players aren’t hiding their disdain for it so much. Especially not Bryce Harper, who made sure to tell ESPN how he really feels about it.
Harper is recovering from Tommy John surgery so he hasn’t had the chance to play with the pitch clock rule, but he’s observed, and he’s not amused.
In the interview, he told the reporter, “I know a lot of players that want our game back, right? But as of right now, it is what it is.”
When asked to clarify what he meant, Harper just said, “I don’t know. I’m not really sure.” Clearly, he has no desire to discuss it further.
