Juan Soto traded to the Yankees
The Bronx bombers also get outfielder Trent Grishman while the Padres get five players in the 7-man trade, Soto’s second move in 18 months.
Juan Soto no plays for the New York Yankees. The Yankees made a move Wednesday for the 25-year-old Dominican that included trading five players to the Padres:

Soto is one of the MLB’s best hitters and has put up impressive numbers for the Padres, who are looking for more spending space in their budget with this move and some pitching power. The Dominican outfielder hit 35 HRs, 109 RBIs with a .275 AVG in 2023. He is a three-time All-Star and finished sixth this year in the MVP race in the National League.

The reason for Juan Soto’s departure
The San Diego Padres are going through a few financial problems and that seems to be the main reason why they are considering offloading Juan Soto. With his departure, the franchise would save the $30 million that the Dominican could earn in salary arbitration during the new season.
Currently the Padres have several players with huge salareis on their roster such as Manny Machado (11 years and $350 million); Fernando Tatís Jr. (14 years and $340 million); Xander Bogaerts (11 years and $280 million) and Yu Darvish (6 years and $108 million).
In terms of salary, Soto will face the fourth year of arbitration and his estimated salary for the 2024 season is $27 million, regardless of where he plays.
