For the first time in 56 years, the New York Yankees will play in Mexico when they face the Diablos Rojos in a two-game series at the Alfredo Harp Helú Stadium in Mexico City.

One fan favorite will stay behind however, as Yankees manager Aaron Boone has confirmed that Juan Soto will not play against the Diablos.

The reason given is that Soto will remain in the Yankees’ spring training base in Tampa, Florida to work on his hitting. During spring training, ‘La Fiera’ has had 12 hits in 40 plate appearances for a .324 average.

But it doesn’t stop there, as Mexican fans got the one-two punch of hearing that Aaron Judge would also be absent from the lineup. Boone plans for ‘The Judge’ to only play the Spring Training games against the Philadelphia Phillies on Saturday the 23rd and the New York Mets on March 25.

Which Yankees stars will play against the Devils?

The Yankees squad that will travel to Mexico has not yet been finalized because, according to the manager, the players have the right to decide whether they want to go or not. So far, the big names who are likely, but not confirmed, to play against the Diablos are Alex Verdugo, Giancarlo Stanton, José Treviño, and Anthony Volpe.

Among the confirmed names are Víctor González, Jonathan Loaisiga, Tanner Tully, and Dennis Santana.
