Julio Urías, who was arrested back in September on suspicion of domestic violence, was sentenced at Los Angeles City Attorney’s Office on Friday. The former Dodgers pitcher was on 36 months of summary probation and ordered to complete 30 days of community labor. He must also complete a 52-week domestic violence counseling course and pay a domestic violence fund fee. He has been banned from possessing weapon and must abide by a protective order.

MLB is carrying out its own investigation separately. The sentence not only marks the end of his career in the Majors, but also scuppers his chances of returning to play in the Mexican League.

Urías has no future in MLB or LMB

After being released by the Dodgers in November, it was suggested that the left-handed pitcher might return to Mexico’s LMB and specifically, the Diablos Rojos del México. His case was likened to that of Roberto Osuna who was also suspended from MLB for accusations of domestic violence and joined the Rojos in May 2021. However, those rumors have been rejected by LMB president Horacio de la Vega.

Is Julio Urías’ career over?

In the wake of rumors placing the Culichi player with the Pingos, De la Vega responded that there is no chance of such a move happening. The former pentathlete explained in an interview that, following an assembly between the owners of the LMB, a resolution was reached stating that no player who is facing a judicial process may be considered for the tournament. He described it as a final sentence and now, following Friday’s sentence, the doors have closed for Julio Urías.

The rumors gathered pace after comments by Rojos’ sports director, Miguel Ojeda, who revealed that Julio did figure in his interests, but now the possibility is zero. There is still the possibility however that Urías could continue his playing career in Japan’s NPB.

According to reporter Han Seong Jan, Urías is believed to be in talks with Fukuoka SoftBank Hawks with reports of a three-year deal worth $60 million although those claims have since been rejected.
