Kyle Schwarber explodes at bad call

It is not often that an umpire makes a call so bad that you see a player simply explode on them. Baseball players are usually ones to defend the umpires, they are only human after all. And who wants a robot umpire?

But Kyle Schwarber had all that he could take and was immediately tossed from the game for his efforts.

To be fair to Schwarber, it wasn’t a single bad call that made him lose his cool. Too many of those had gone by while he held his tongue. But a called strike three that was low and outside was just one too many to let pass.

The object of this spewing? Who else? The king of the questionable call, Angel Hernandez. The count was full, with a man on base and one out in the bottom of the ninth when Hernandez rung Schwarber up. And no, it was not a strike.

Phillies frustration with Hernandez had been building all day, with Bryce Harper unhappy with a called strikeout he received in the first inning. But fairness is the prime trait that an umpire must show, not necessarily quality, and one thing you can say about Angel Hernandez, he is definitely fair. Terrible calls both ways.

The call may have cost the Phillies the game, but it certainly got Schwarber tossed, although I think that he will not regret it one bit. Angel Hernandez? It’s doubtful that he can even remember it.
