Update:

The best two teams in the American League during the 2025 MLB regular season are set to collide in the AL Division Series. The New York Yankees and the Toronto Blue Jays will face off in a best-of-five series, with a ticket to the AL Championship Series on the line.

How did Yankees and Blue Jays reach ALDS?

The Yankees punched their ticket by defeating the Boston Red Sox in the Wild Card Series. Meanwhile, the Blue Jays earned a few days of rest after finishing the regular season as the AL’s No. 1 seed.

Game 1 of the ALDS kicks off today, Saturday, October 4, at Rogers Centre in Toronto. The Yankees head north to take on the Blue Jays once again - these two clubs met 13 times during the regular season, with Toronto taking eight of those matchups. Their most recent series was held at Yankee Stadium, where New York won two out of three.

Big names galore in ALDS matchup

This series is stacked with star power. The Yankees bring a formidable lineup featuring Aaron Judge, Giancarlo Stanton, Max Fried, and Cody Bellinger. On the Blue Jays’ side, fans can expect big performances from Vladimir Guerrero Jr., Bo Bichette, Max Scherzer, and Alejandro Kirk.

Both teams have announced their starting pitchers for the early games. Luis Gil will take the mound for New York in Game 1, while Toronto counters with ace Kevin Gausman. For Game 2, the Yankees will turn to Max Fried, though the Blue Jays have yet to name their starter beyond the opener. Yankees manager Aaron Boone has also tapped Carlos Rodón for Game 3 and Cam Schlittler for a potential Game 4.
