The Los Angeles Dodgers pitcher has been red hot so far this season, but truthfully that should come as no surprise given his performance last year.

Following another impressive performance on Monday night, it’s now clear that the Dodgers pitcher is not playing around this season. The question now is whether he can keep throwing the kind of heat that’s got some calling him the best there is right now.

The Giants were dismantled by Julio Urias

On Monday, The Dodgers got a more than impressive 9-1 win against the San Francisco Giants and it’s got to be said it was courtesy of Julio Urias’ sensational pitching. On the night, the Mexican star allowed just one run and four hits with two walks across the six innings that he pitched. As for strike outs, there were eight of them in what turned out to be his third consecutive win, bringing his tally for the season so far to 3-0. Indeed, last week he took apart the Rockies in a 5-2 victory in which he also pitched six innings. On that occasion he picked up six strike outs to go with five hits and no walks. Again, the kid is impressive.

Julio Urias by the numbers

In the three starts that he’s had so far, the 26-year-old has pitched exactly six innings in each. In total, he’s got 20 strike outs to date and just two walks, while posting an unbelievable 1.50 ERA and 0.83 WHIP. It’s interesting to note, that despite the fact that the Dodgers have actually been conservative with Urias’ workload, he’s still managed to deliver incredible results. To that end, it will be very interesting to see how the lefty goes forward as we are still very much in the early days of the campaign.

On the other hand, if his first three games are anything to go by, we can expect him to remain a strong candidate for Cy Young Award when the curtain finally comes down on the season. Not only has he demonstrated consistency, but he’s also shown creativity, after he debuted a slider-cutter hybrid in the opening game of the season against the Diamondbacks. It was an 8-2 victory on the day in which he struck six in six frames with a total of 79 pitches. Truth be told, Urias is becoming something of a master at inducing weak contact which is to say his new pitch will likely increase his strike out count as the season goes on. Whether you’re a fan or not, this guy’s got game.
