Manny Rodriguez receives special jersey

Chicago Cubs pitcher Manuel Rodriguez is the MLB’s first player from Yucatan, Mexico and he just received a special jersey representing his culture.

Manny Rodriguez is Major League Baseball’s first player from Yucatan, Mexico. For the people of Yucatan culture, that’s something quite special. So the Diablilos Mestizas sent the Chicago Cubs pitcher a special jersey after he closed out his second season in the league.

The gift was a Cubs jersey, but this one was embroidered with Yucatan details on the top.

“Thank you very much for this beautiful and meaningful gift for me. Representing my culture”, said Rodriguez, who is a native of Umán.

Rodriguez said the jersey brings back a lot of memories for him, as his mother also embroidered the floral design, representative of Mayan culture, for special events, like his sisters’ 15th birthday and baptisms.

Rodriguez, nicknamed “el Bolón”, had a challenging year after recovering from an injury.

“One of the most difficult years of my career, but I never gave up, I never stopped insisting and persisting to come back. Very Blessed to end the year healthy and grateful for the opportunities. Thanks to everyone who helped me get back. See you soon!”
