The Yankees have made it clear that they need to strengthen their pitching rotation to regain prominence for the start of the new season in Major League baseball.

Much was said about the interest that existed in Japanese pitcher Yoshinobu Yamamoto, who finally ended up signing with the Los Angeles Dodgers, leaving the Bronx Bombers to look at other candidates for their roster.

It prompted the Yankees to start talks with the right-handed pitcher of Puerto Rican roots Marcus Stroman - a free agent after having spent last season with the Chicago Cubs.

On Thursday it emerged that the Yankees have agreed a two-year deal with Stroman for $37 million. The agreement, according to Fansided’s Robert Murray, includes the option of a third year.

The Yankees’s previous interest in Stroman

Marcus Stroman was linked to the New York franchise in the past. In 2019, there were rumors of interest. The Toronto Blue Jays traded Stroman to the Mets in July 2019, amid talks with the Yankees, who had refused to pay the asking price: “We were interested in Stroman, but we didn’t think he would make a difference,” says Brian Cashman, at the time.

Marcus Stroman had a 3.95 ERA with a 1.26 WHIP and 119 strikeouts in 136 2/3 innings of work (including 25 starts) with the Chicago Cubs last season.
