Who’s in the 2024 Home Run Derby?
The lineup is set, featuring these heavy hitters:
Unfortunately for baseball fans everywhere, Shohei Ohtani won’t be joining this year. The Dodgers star is sitting out to focus on rehabbing his injured pitching elbow.
New rules for the 2024 Home Run Derby
This year, the Derby isn’t sticking to a strict tournament format. Instead, all eight players will slug it out in the first round, with the top four advancing to the semifinals based on their home run totals. Ties will be broken by the longest homer each player hits.
In the first two rounds, each player gets three minutes or 40 pitches (whichever comes first) to crush as many homers as possible, with one 45-second timeout allowed (but not during bonus time, which is awarded for homers over 425 feet). The finals are a bit tighter, with just two minutes or 27 pitches.
The Home Run Derby winner will take home a cool $1 million from a total prize pool of $2.5 million. The runner-up isn’t too shabby either, collecting $750,000.
When is the 2024 All-Star Home Run Derby?
