Baseball likes to start its road to the World Series much like the Bible, with chaos.

The 2022 season has been chock-full of firsts, bests, and surprises. With history made by Miguel Cabrera for topping 3000 hits, Albert Pujols for reaching 700 home runs, and Aaron Judge for breaking Roger Maris’ mark in the American league, the post season was not to be outdone.

Bringing in a best-of-three Wild Card format has caused excitement and consternation in equal measure as two division leaders were knocked out by teams thought of as middling.

The Philadelphia Phillies humbled the defending champion Atlanta Braves in the NLDS while the San Diego Padres put on a stellar and emotional performance to sent the top seed Los Angeles Dodgers back up the road.

Now we will see the most improbable matchup imaginable, with the victor taking the National League pennant and representing the league in the World Series. And even in this, the 2022 MLB season keeps giving record-breaking events. This is the first NLCS ever contested between two teams who both have fewer than 90 wins.
