MLB star placed on leave amid gambling investigation
A Guardians pitcher has been placed on non-disciplinary paid leave for the next month, amid a league investigation.

Dominican closer Emmanuel Clase of the Cleveland Guardians has been placed on non-disciplinary paid leave through August 31, as Major League Baseball continues its sports-betting investigation.
“The Guardians are not permitted to comment further at this time, and will respect the league’s confidential investigative process as we continue to fully cooperate,” Cleveland said in a statement on Monday.

Clase not the only Guardian probed
Clase is the second Guardians player currently under investigation by MLB over allegations of having violated the league’s gambling policy. Fellow Dominican pitcher Luis Ortiz is also the subject of an MLB probe.
Now in his fifth season with Cleveland, Clase has posted a 3.23 ERA over 47.1 innings in 48 appearances this year.
