Mother’s Day is a strange holiday. It is the one day of the year when you remember to show gratitude to the single most important person in your existence. So what do you do?

If you are anything like the rest of us, you forget about it until the last minute and then rush out to buy a bouquet of flowers and make a hasty reservation at a local restaurant.

And all of those mothers out there smile and graciously receive your gesture with all the love that they have shown you your entire life.

But what about shaking things up? Why not something different? It is in this spirit that Major League Baseball has come up with a brilliant idea.

From Friday to Sunday, May 10 to May 12, MLB.TV is streaming every out-of-market game for free. Because, well, why not? Baseball, mom, apple pie. That is America, isn’t it? They just go together.

For the baseball-mad moms out there, there are some tasty matchups to be had, such as Paul Skenes’ MLB debut for the Pirates against the Cubs or the Dodgers heading down the I-5 to face the Padres. There will be some fantastic baseball played this weekend.

So go on, change the normal flow of things. Sign up for an MLB.TV account and share the gift of baseball with your mom. Bring along an apple pie.

Might I suggest, however, that you pick up some flowers and make a reservation in a restaurant, too. Just in case.
