The Los Angeles Dodgers are back in the World Series after a decisive 10-5 victory over the New York Mets in Game 6 on Sunday. This marks their fourth trip to the Fall Classic in eight seasons, and their first return since that controversial win in 2020. Erasing that asterisk is high on the Dodgers' agenda.

Waiting for them on the other side? The New York Yankees, who took down the Cleveland Guardians in five games to punch their ticket. Game 1 is set for Friday at 7 p.m. ET, and it’s shaping up to be a clash of titans. These two haven’t met in the World Series for 43 years, not since the Dodgers took the title in six games back in 1981.

The Yankees come in riding high after Juan Soto’s three-run shot in the 10th inning sealed the deal in Game 5 of the ALCS. That gave New York a 5-2 win and their 41st trip to the World Series, the first in 15 long years. Giancarlo Stanton, who hit a two-run homer in that series and walked away with the ALCS MVP honors, will be key as the Yankees aim for their 28th championship.

For many, this matchup is a nightmare come to life: two of the biggest, and richest, teams in baseball, both sporting fanbases that are absolutely insufferable. There’s no escape from the noise, the bravado, the endless debate over who’s the greatest. Someone has to win, and for everyone outside New York or Los Angeles, that’s awful news.

But for Yankee and Dodger fans, this is what it’s all about.
