The World Baseball Classic concluded with Japan being crowned the tournament champions, as they edged out the United States in the showpiece final and added their third global title to their list of honours. The event showcased great figures who won the affection of the public and promoted their teams on the diamond, delivering excellent performances.

Undoubtedly, social media played a fundamental role in the success of the event, as it contributed to its greater relevance. The official social media accounts of the World Baseball Classic experienced a significant increase of 102% during the semifinal rounds and the grand final.

Social media lights up for Ohtani and Arozarena

Two clear examples of the fundamental role played by social media in this went by the names of Shohei Ohtani and Randy Arozarena.

During the tournament, Ohtani increased his number of Instagram followers by more than 2.1 million, achieving an 89% increase and becoming the first MLB player to surpass 4 million followers on the platform.

Meanwhile, Arozarena saw a boost in his Instagram followers by almost 300%, the highest percentage growth of any MLB player. He also achieved the highest growth in Twitter followers by percentage during the WBC with a 105% increase.
