Red Sox legend David Ortiz doesn’t hold back on the Yankees’ chances of coming back in the ALDS
After two blowout losses to the Blue Jays, Ortiz says even the Yankees’ biggest legends couldn’t save them from elimination.

The New York Yankees are Major League Baseball’s most successful franchise, having won 27 World Series championships, 21 American League East Division titles and 41 American League pennants. However, their chances of adding to that total this year appear slim after losing the first two games of the ALDS to the Toronto Blue Jays.
Yankees struggle against Blue Jays again
In the 2025 MLB regular season, the Yankees finished runners-up to Toronto in the American League East. The Blue Jays topped the division by virtue of winning the season series between the two teams, and they have again dominated New York in the playoffs, following up Saturday’s 10-1 victory with a 13-7 triumph on Sunday.
The Yankees now have no option but to win three straight games to advance, an outcome that looks increasingly unlikely based on their recent performances.
David Ortiz enjoys Yankees’ misfortune
One Boston Red Sox icon appears to be reveling in watching his former team’s rivals falter. David Ortiz, now an MLB analyst with Fox, made it clear he doesn’t believe the Yankees have any chance of turning the series around, in his own unmistakable style.
Addressing fellow analyst Derek Jeter, Ortiz laughed and said, “The only chance the Yankees have is if you, Mo (Mariano Rivera), Andy (Pettitte) and A-Rod (Alex Rodríguez) come back and play. Reggie Jackson, Babe Ruth, Joe DiMaggio, all of them! Roger Maris.”
Ortiz didn’t stop there. “They can bring Jesus back and they’re still gonna go to Cancún,” he said. “It’s over! It’s a wrap!”

New York’s elimination looming
Game 3 of the Yankees-Blue Jays ALDS series takes place Tuesday, Oct. 7. Games 4 and 5, if necessary, are scheduled for Wednesday, Oct. 8, and Friday, Oct. 10.
