The ‘Friars’ filled the gap in their starting rotation by acquiring a veteran pitcher in exchange for prospects to replace Blake Snell.

The San Diego Padres are scheduled to kick off the 2024 baseball season in South Korea next week. They will play against the Los Angeles Dodgers at the Gocheok Sky Dome. However, the Padres are currently facing a problem in their starting rotation as Blake Snell has become a free agent.

The San Diego Padres have acquired Dylan Cease from the Chicago White Sox, filling a void in their team. According to ESPN’s Jeff Passan, San Diego traded prospects Drew Thorpe, Samuel Zavala, Jairo Iriarte, and pitcher Steven Wilson in exchange for Cease.

The Padres have acquired a 28-year-old right-handed pitcher who previously started for the White Sox for five seasons. He was the runner-up for the American League Cy Young Award in 2022, thanks to his impressive 2.20 ERA and scoreless game.

One benefit of acquiring him is that the Padres will have control of the pitcher for two more seasons before he becomes a free agent. The White Sox agreed to pay him eight million dollars in 2024 to avoid salary arbitration.

How does the starting rotation of the Padres appear with Dylan Cease in it?

With the addition of Cease and the pitchers received in the Juan Soto trade to the New York Yankees, the Padres’ rotation has taken shape. The five projected starters for the Padres are Yu Darvish, Joe Musgrove, Cease, Michael King, and Jhony Brito.
