Seager home run streak to 3 games
The Texas Rangers have had a rocky start to the 2022 MLB season but one glimmer has been Corey Seager, who has hit a home run in three straight games.
Arlington has seen an up and down season in 2022, more down than up, if Rangers fans are honest. But the franchise’s largest-ever contract needs to pay off and there is some hints of brightness shining through the cloud cover in Dallas.
Just before baseball went into lockout, Corey Seager was signed the the Rangers to a ten-year, $325 million contract. His solo shot in the first inning of Texas’ 3-1 win over the Atlanta Braves on Saturday gave Texas their only first-inning run since opening day.
“He smoked that ball,” said Rangers manager Chris Woodward. “We felt better. The other team’s playing from behind right from the beginning.”
It was Seager’s fourth home run of the season, bringing the streak to three consecutive games, matching his career high.
Another high note for the Rangers was the outing of starter Dane Dunning, who allowed only one run over a career-high 7 and 2/3 innings. Notching up his first win since last August, Dunning displayed superb control, striking out five of the first seven batters he faced. He retired 14 straight before giving up a double to Adam Duvall.
Dunning’s seven strikeouts marks a season high, while this outing is the longest Rangers start this season.
With the massive money spent on Marcus Semien and Seager in the off season, Texas fans may not have a huge amount of patience. Let’s hope that this is a turning point in the season for the club.
