The Seattle Mariners fired manager Scott Servais on Thursday. The team has been struggling for the past two months, squandering a 10-game lead in the division and slipping to the fringes of playoff contention in the American League. The decision to move on from Servais, who was in his ninth season in charge, came after a disastrous 1-8 road trip. This dropped the Mariners to a 64-64 record after 13 games over .500 in mid-June.

Servais arrived in Seattle before the 2016 season, joining forces with Dipoto. During his time with Seattle, he managed the team to a record of 680-642. The team went through a rebuild during his tenure, which made the Mariners competitive but not successful enough. Servais became the second-longest standing manager in franchise history, behind only Lou Piniella.

Along comes in - Dan Wilson

The Seattle Mariners wasted no time announcing that former catcher Dan Wilson will take over as the team’s new manager following Scott Servais’s departure. A beloved figure in Mariners history, Wilson played at the ballpark from 1994 to 2005 and is a member of the Mariners Hall of Fame. His return to the team has generated important excitement in Seattle, considering his status among the fans.

The Mariners’ decision to bring Wilson on board has sparked further speculation about possible changes to the coaching staff. Rumors are circulating about franchise legend Edgar Martinez potentially joining the team in some capacity. Martinez, who has a street named after him near the ballpark, would further solidify the connection between the team’s current leadership and its storied past.

The Mariners will face the San Francisco Giants in their first game without Servais. As the team embarks on this new chapter, fans and Major League Baseball media will be eager to see if Wilson can bring the energy and direction they crave. Whether Wilson is a temporary stopgap or a long-term solution remains to be seen.
