Shock at Yankee Stadium as Red Sox win opening game of Wild Card playoff
The best-of-three wild-card American League series opened with a 3-1 win for Boston over the New York Yankees.

Garrett Crochet was in charge of proceedings at Yankee Stadium on Tuesday evening as postseason commenced as the Boston Red Sox and New York Yankees opened a new chapter in their historic rivalry. The 26-year-old pitcher struck out 11 in 7.2 innings of work, allowing just one run in the 3-1 victory over the Yankees.

Pinch-hitter Masataka Yoshida also delivered on the night, connecting a two-run single that gave the Red Sox the lead, and eventual victory, against the attacks of Yankees reliever Luke Weaver, in the seventh inning.
Closer Aroldis Chapman put the final seal on his former team, recording four outs to tip the balance in favor of the visitors.
The Yankees have little margin for error in the best of three series as Game 2 starts tonight in the Big Apple at 6:06 pm (ET) with the third game (if needed) scheduled for Thursday evening.
