Teoscar Hernández latest Dodger signing, bolstering mega lineup
The Los Angeles Dodgers have bolstered that billion dollar shopping spree with a massive signing as All Star outfielder Teoscar Hernández joins the flock.
With all of the hoopla surrounding the landing of Shohei Ohtani, it would be easy for the Los Angeles Dodgers to become myopic. The Japanese two-way phenom is a huge signing, no doubt, and his countryman Yoshinobu Yamamoto was enough to push Dodger-mania into the stratosphere for most of the baseball media.
But now the Dodgers have signed another huge bat that could be enough to give substance to their claims of having a World Series-caliber lineup.
Two-time Silver Slugger and 2023 All-Star outfielder Teoscar Hernández has been snapped up for a one-year deal at only $23.5 million, a sum that looks like a bargain compared to the billion-plus that the Dodgers have already plumped for this off season.
Hernández was a hot property around the league as a right-handed batter who could produce against left handed pitching. He is one of only 12 players to hit at least 25 home runs per season over the last four seasons and has a career .887 OPS against lefties.
An eight year veteran, Hernández has a career .261 average with a .316 OBP and .802 OPS. A decent defensive player, the real benefit for the Dodgers should be at the plate, where he will compliment a power hitting lineup that could see the Dodgers in strong contention come October.
