The Milwaukee Brewers are headed back to the National League Championship Series—and it’s personal. After clinching a 3-1 victory over the Chicago Cubs in Game 5 of the NL Division Series, the Brewers will face off against the Los Angeles Dodgers in what promises to be a fiery rematch of their 2018 showdown, which Milwaukee lost in seven games.

Power surge at American Family Field

Milwaukee wasted no time lighting up the scoreboard. In the bottom of the first inning, Venezuelan slugger William Contreras launched a full-count fastball from Drew Pomeranz deep over the left-field wall, giving the Brewers an early lead.

But the Cubs answered quickly—Japanese outfielder Seiya Suzuki tied it up in the top of the second with his third postseason homer, this one off Jacob Misiorowski.

The Brewers kept the pressure on in the fourth inning with a two-out rally. Andrew Vaughn flipped the score with a solo shot, followed by a single from Sal Frelick, a hit-and-error combo from Caleb Durbin, and a walk to Blake Perkins that loaded the bases. Unfortunately, they couldn’t capitalize—Joey Ortiz grounded out, and Dansby Swanson turned a slick play at second to end the threat.

Turang delivers the knockout blow

Pitching dominated the middle innings until Brice Turang stepped up in the seventh. The Brewers’ second baseman crushed a 416-foot homer to dead center, clocked at 107.4 mph off the bat, sealing Milwaukee’s third run and putting the game out of reach.

The Cubs made a last-ditch effort in the ninth, hoping for a miracle comeback. But Seiya Suzuki, Ian Happ, and Carson Kelly couldn’t break through. Brewers closer Abner Uribe shut the door with two scoreless innings, earning the save and sending Milwaukee to the NLCS.
