The New York Yankees were among the most active teams at the trade deadline, with GM Brian Cashman targeting two glaring weaknesses: defense and bullpen depth.

Relievers David Bednar, Camilo Doval and Jake Bird headline the bullpen reinforcements, addressing a unit that ranked second-to-last in MLB ERA last month.

On the defensive side, third baseman Ryan McMahon brings stability to the hot corner, while José Caballero and Amed Rosario add flexibility and depth off the bench for manager Aaron Boone.

Yankees receive: INF/OF José Caballero

Rays receive: OF Everson Pereira and a player to be named later or cash considerations.

David Bednar

Yankees receive: RHP David Bednar

Pirates receive: C Rafael Flores (Yankees’ No. 8 prospect), C/1B Edgleen Pérez (No. 14), and OF Brian Sánchez.

Jake Bird

Yankees receive: RHP Jake Bird

Rockies receive: 2B Roc Riggio (No. 10) and LHP Ben Shields (No. 28).

To make room on the 40-man roster, the Yankees designated OF Bryan De La Cruz for assignment.

Camilo Doval

Yankees receive: RHP Camilo Doval

Giants receive: C Jesús Rodríguez, RHP Trystan Vrieling, INF Parks Harber, and LHP Carlos De La Rosa.

Ryan McMahon

Yankees receive: 3B Ryan McMahon

Rockies receive: Minor league pitchers Josh Grosz and Griffin Herring.

Amed Rosario

Yankees receive: 3B Amed Rosario

Nationals receive: RHP Clayton Beeter and OF Browm Martínez.

Austin Slater

Yankees receive: OF Austin Slater

White Sox receive: Minor league RHP Gage Ziehl.

As part of the transaction, catcher JC Escarra was optioned to Triple-A Scranton/Wilkes-Barre.

Additionally, the Yankees acquired minor league outfielder Wilberson De Peña and international bonus pool money from the Los Angeles Angels in exchange for INF Oswald Peraza.

Departures

The Yankees also announced they’ve traded veteran RHP Carlos Carrasco to the Atlanta Braves in exchange for cash considerations.

In a corresponding move following the rotation shake-up, the team released right-hander Marcus Stroman.
