What injury did Ronald Acuña suffer against the Pirates?
The Venezuelan outfielder suffered an injury to his left knee in Sunday’s game against the Pittsburgh Pirates. The Braves fear it could be serious.
Alarms bells are ringing in Atlanta. Venezuelan outfielder Ronald Acuña Jr., who was the most valuable player in the National League of the MLB Major Leagues, picked up a worrying injury in a non-contact play in today’s game against the Pittsburgh Pirates.
Acuña was looking to run to third, then turned around to return to second, but pulled up, fell to the ground and was unable to get up. Visibly in pain, Acuña was treated by Atlanta’s medical team before limping off the field to have his injured left leg assessed.
Fears Acuña might have a torn ACL
The Braves have yet give any further updates on the injury, simply confirming Acuña’s absence due to an injury to his left leg. While no news is good news, there is a still great concern for Acuña as some reports have indicated that he could have suffered a ligament tear to his left knee. That would be the worst possible scenario for Acuña, who suffered a similar injury in 2021 and was out of action for 292 days.
The Venezuelan, who is in Pittsburgh playing a three-game series against the Pirates, ended last season as the National League MVP. During the current regular season, he was batting .250 with four home runs and 15 RBIs in 49 games.
The Braves, who are second in the National League East with a 30-20 record, will be without Acuña for the next game, against the Washington Nationals on Monday 27 May (4:10 p.m. EDT).
