What is a 3-run triple? How many 3-run triples had Aaron Jones in his career?

The New York Yankees (44-19) secured their seventh consecutive victory by defeating the Minnesota Twins (33-28) 9-5, with an outstanding performance from Aaron Judge and a solid start by Carlos Rodón.

‘The Judge’ drove in five of the Yankees’ nine runs. The first came via a sacrifice grounder on the first roll, in which Anthony Volpe stepped on the home plate after Judge was taken out of circulation.

In the bottom of the fifth inning, with the bases loaded, Judge hit a very powerful grounder to left field, and all three men on the bases scored to make the score 7-0. This was the first time ‘The Judge’ hit a three-run RBI triple in his entire career in the Major Leagues.

Judge’s fifth RBI came via a walk to first in the sixth inning. The Yankees outfielder had to be patient before Josh Staumont’s streamer for a walk, and Austin Wells walked calmly from third base to home plate.

For his part, Rodón had a quality start by pitching six full innings, allowing two runs, and striking out nine of the 21 batters he faced. The Yankees starter showed his dominance from the mound, and 65 of the 100 pitches he threw were strikes.

What is a 3-run triple?

A triple in baseball happens when a batter hits the ball and reaches third base without an intervening error or attempt to put out another baserunner. Faster players usually achieve triples, as slower runners are less likely to make it to third base before the ball gets back to the infield.

They are more likely to happen with hits to the right side of the field, as the throw from the right field to third base is more challenging. Triples almost always involve a close play at third base, and stand-up triples are extremely rare due to the distance the batter has to cover.

Aaron Judge and Juan Soto, the first duo with 50+ RBI

Judge came into tonight’s game with 49 RBIs in 2024, and with the five against the Twins, he reached 54. That made him the second Yankees player to surpass half a hundred RBI in the anus. The other is Juan Soto, who has 53.

Two organizations could emulate what Judge and Soto did within the next few days: the Philadelphia Phillies and the Cleveland Guardians. The Phillies have 50 from Alec Bohm and 44 from Bryce Harper, while the Guardians have the leader in that area, José Ramírez, with 58, and Josh Naylor, with 44.
