What MLB teams are successfully rebuilding for the future with young talent in their organizations?
Rebuilding in MLB is a tricky, challenging, and complicated undertaking, but it’s sometimes a necessary evil to improve a team’s future chances of winning.
Quite a few MLB teams have recently undergone the process of rebuilding, in hopes of having a brighter future for their franchises. As the season draws on, it becomes more apparent which teams are having more success with the process, in terms of having the available young talent within the franchise.
Arizona Diamondbacks
Earlier this year, the D-Backs had their eye on Daulton Varsho to become a player to build around, and now other young players are performing in a way that demonstrates they could be part of an excellent homegrown roster. Varsho, Alex Thomas, and Geraldo Perdomo have all made solid contributions to the team so far.
Other baseball stories:
Arizona also has one of the top talents in the minors, outfielder Corbin Carroll, who is already making waves in Triple A. He is expected to eventually shine in the big leagues as well. Things are also looking promising for outfielder Druw Jones and shortstop Jordan Lawlar, whom the Diamondbacks acquired in the past two drafts.
Pittsburgh Pirates
The Pirates selected wisely in the last two drafts, getting hold of catcher Henry Davis with the number one pick in 2021, along with pitcher and shortstop Bubba Chandler, left-handed pitcher Anthony Soolometo, and outfielder Lonnie White. This year, they obtained 18-year-old shortstop Termarr Johnson in the first round as the fourth overall selection. The Pirates are still waiting on more exciting performances from right-hander Mitch Keller.
Cincinnati Reds
The Reds had a serious rebuild heading in after they let go of two-time All Star Luis Castillo and right-handed pitcher Tyler Mahle, among others. But they buffed up their shortstop lineup with the acquisition of Edwin Arroyo, Noelvi Marie, and Spencer Steer. Cincinnati also secured the services of 17-year-old third baseman Cam Collier in July. The team can also bank on other homegrown talents like Hunter Greene, Jonathan India, Nick Lodolo, and Tyler Stephenson.
