What will the Dodgers lineup look like in 2024? Betts, Ohtani, Freeman, Muncy, Hernandez…

With the addition of Shohei Ohtani and Teoscar Hernández, the Dodgers lineup offers some intriguing options at the plate for Opening Day 2024.

There is no doubt that the big winners in this off season were the Los Angeles Dodgers, picking up the services of Japanese superstar Shohei Ohtani. Although the excitement is muted somewhat by his second elbow surgery, which will keep him off the mound for at least a year, Ohtani still brings a fearsome power to the plate as a designated hitter.

Getting a debut in Dodger blue in the Cactus League, Ohtani showed off that power with a two-run homer against the Chicago White Sox. With just under a month to go until Opening Day, manager Dave Roberts will make a call on his lineup for their season debut against the San Diego Padres in South Korea.

Given that the first series will take place in the far east, barring injury it is almost a given that Shohei will hit. But he is just one part of a fearsome Dodgers lineup. In addition to Shotime, the Dodgers also picked up Teoscar Hernández and are getting Jason Heyward and Kiké Hernández back. This in addition to a lineup led by Mookie Betts, Freddie Freeman, Will Smith and Austin Barnes.

The Dodgers didn’t just focus on their bats, however, with the loss of Ohtani on the mound for this season prompting the acquisition of another Japanese player, highly sought after right-hander Yoshinobu Yamamoto, who signed for 12 years. The departure of Lance Lynn to the St. Louis Cardinals was offset by the arrival of James Paxton from the Boston Red Sox.

Likewise, the Blues will try to take advantage of some great young talents, such as James Outman, Gavin Lux and Miguel Vargas, who are all still under the team’s salary control.

This is how the Dodgers’ lineup might look on Opening Day

  • 2B - Mookie Betts
  • DH - Shohei Ohtani
  • 1B - Freddie Freeman
  • C - Will Smith
  • 3B - Max Muncy
  • LF - Teoscar Hernández
  • RF - Jason Heyward
  • CF - James Outman
  • SS - Gavin Lux
