Guardians and Orioles in strong positions in American League
The American League big hitters are in strong positions in their respective divisions, with the Guardians currently topping the AL Central Division with a 49-26 overall record, which includes 23-17 on the road.
Cleveland’s 0.653 winning percentage is only marginally better than the Orioles’, who are battling it out with the New York Yankees for top spot in the AL East. Baltimore have won 49 and lost 28 of their games this season (25-14 at home), for a winning percentage of 0.636.

Despite their lofty position in their division, the Orioles head into the series having been swept by the Houston Astros, second in the AL West, who won the third game 8-1. Pitchers Dean Kremer, Danny Coulombe, Tyler Wells, and Kyle Bradish will all miss at least the first game due to injury.
The Guardians, by contrast, swept AL East bottom team the Toronto Blue Jays in their latest series, which takes their winning running to five straight games. Relief pitcher Franco Aleman will be their main absentee.
