When does MLB Spring Training end? When are the official rosters announced?

The 2023 MLB regular season is almost upon us and with that we’re taking a look at some of the important dates such as when does spring training end and most importantly when do teams in the league announce their opening day rosters?

When does MLB spring training end?

The intense process of MLB’s spring training with its position specific report dates and finally exhibition games, is about to come to an end. Having started in mid-February, with some teams seeing their pitchers and catchers report for camp on Monday 13th, February, the process culminated with both the Cactus League in Arizona and the Grapefruit league in Florida. Now, with Opening Day set for Thursday 30th, March it all comes to an end on Tuesday 28th, March.

When do MLB teams announce their Opening Day rosters?

It’s the big question and one that’s asked every year ahead of the MLB regular season: When do MLB teams announce their opening day rosters? To be perfectly honest, there isn’t exactly a concrete answer to the question, in that there is no official date by which teams are obligated to announce their rosters. This to some extent, is due to the fact that teams are busy making the final adjustments, compensating for injuries, or assessing who’s worthy of the spot on the team.

On the other hand, with MLB deciding to play all of it’s games first games of the season on Opening Day for the first time since 1968, we can expect to see the teams revealing their rosters over the next few days. Of course fans can look forward to an exciting opening day lineup with at least two exciting games. Firstly there’s the face-off between the San Francisco Giants and the New York Yankees with the first pitch set for 1:05 p.m. ET and then we’ve got the big one, with the defending champion Houston Astros hosting the Chicago White Sox at Minute Maid Park. Opening pitch in that one is set for 7:08 p.m. ET.
