When is MLB Opening day 2024? Baseball’s schedule for the first day of the season
Baseball fans will be spoiled for choice with the MLB choosing to play every team’s first game of the season on Opening Day for the second year in a row.
The crack of the bat, the smell of freshly cut grass, and the roar of the crowd—it can only mean one thing: MLB Opening Day is upon us! As the winter chill gives way to spring, baseball fans eagerly await the first pitch, the first home run, and the first victory of the season.
With a record off season that saw the Ohtani-mania settled for the near future as the Dodgers took MLB’s top signing now behind us, it is time to focus on the MLB’s Opening Day on Thursday, March 28. For the second year in a row, all 30 teams in the league will be playing their first games of the season on the same day. Prior to last season, that hadn’t happened since 1968.
There is a wrinkle in the works however, with the Los Angeles Dodgers playing the San Diego Padres in Seoul, South Korea on March 20 and 21. Although this will take place smack in the middle of Spring Training, the games will count as regular season games, meaning their Opening Day games will actually be these two teams’ third game of the season.
Cubs vs Rangers
The 2023 World Series champion Texas Rangers will start this year’s campaign by hosting the Chicago Cubs at Globe Life Field, which takes place at 7:35 p.m. ET / 4:35 PT. For the first time in their history, the Rangers come into the 2024 season as the defending champions. Everyone will be gunning for them and the first team to get the chance at dethroning them will be the Cubs.
Wyatt Langford has had a blistering Cactus League and is odds on favorite to start in center field for Texas. The young prospect out of the University of Florida has a .346 average with an astounding 1.246 OPS, hitting four home runs in only 26 at-bats.
Here is the full list of games that will take place on Thursday, March 28.
