When is the last day of the MLB regular season? 2024 Wild Card and playoff schedule
The 2024 MLB season is winding to its conclusion as the final reshuffle of seeding can still throw a wrench into the machinery.
The 2024 MLB regular season is about to hit its final note, with the last day of games set for Sunday, September 29. No more one-game tiebreakers - so come Monday, it’s a quiet day before the postseason action cranks up. The playoffs begin on Tuesday, October 1, with the Wild Card Series, and from there, it’s a straight shot to the World Series.
This year, twelve teams will battle it out in a four-round format. The Wild Card Series kicks off first, a best-of-three fight where the No. 3 and No. 4 seeds in each league host the No. 6 and No. 5 seeds. Meanwhile, the top two teams in both the American League and National League sit tight with a bye, waiting for the League Division Series to start on October 5.
As for the World Series? That starts either on Friday, October 25, or Tuesday, October 22, depending on how quickly the League Championship Series wraps up. If both the ALCS and NLCS end early, the big showdown will begin earlier. Otherwise, we’re looking at a late-October start and the potential for the season to stretch into early November.
