The Philadelphia Phillies are back in the World Series after a thrilling victory over the San Diego Padres in Game 5 of the National League Championship Series, which earned them the right to face the Houston Astros.

It’s the first time they are making an appearance at the Fall Classic since 2009, when they lost to the New York Yankees in six games. Philadelphia last won the championship the year before, when they defeated the Tampa Bay Rays 4-3 in Game 5 which was delayed by rain, and wrapped up the series at 4-1.

They secured the victory in front of almost 46,000 Phillies fans at their home arena of Citizens Bank Park.

That was their second World Series victory, the first being their win over the Kansas City Royals way back in 1980.

The Phillies are the underdogs in this matchup, as the Astros are the No. 1 seed in the American League playoffs, and are favored by oddsmakers to win their second World Series title. But after Philadelphia scored upsets against all their playoff opponents, they can’t be counted out to achieve just one more.

Game 1 of the World Series between the Philadelphia Phillies and the Houston Astros takes place on Friday at 8 p.m. ET at Minute Maid Park in Houston. Game 2 will be held on Saturday at 8 p.m., also at Minute Maid Park.
