There appears to be some light at the end of the tunnel for the New York Yankees and third baseman Jazz Chisholm Jr. On Tuesday, manager Aaron Boone confirmed that Chisholm Jr. had been placed on the injured list after suffering an injury to the ulnar collateral ligament in his left elbow.

He appeared to injure himself while sliding awkwardly towards home plate during Monday night’s 12–2 defeat to the Chicago White Sox.

Chisolm was clearly experiencing discomfort to his left arm and ended up quitting the game in the seventh inning. Boone reacted by alternating Venezuelan Oswaldo Cabrera and DJ LeMahieu at third base, to cover the loss of Chisholm Jr, who only arrived in July in a trade with the Miami Marlins.

Jazz Chisholm Jr.’s return date

The outlook didn’t look too hopeful for the 26-year-old but after undergoing a series of tests, it looks like he has been very fortunate and will avoid a trip to the operating table. His return date with the Manhattan Mules appears to be closer than expected.

With surgery ruled out, the player will spend the next few days recovering at home, allowing any swelling to subside and could finally be re-activated in September.

“It’s 100% realistic for me that within 10 days I’ll be back,” Chisholm Jr. said of his return. He will miss this month’s games against the Tigers, the Guardians, the Rockies, the Nationals. and the Cardinals.

Chisholm Jr. has played in 14 games with the Bronx Bombers, hitting .316/.361/.702 with seven home runs, 13 runs scored, 11 RBIs and five stolen bases.
