When will Yoshinobu Yamamoto be presented by Dodgers?
The Los Angeles Dodgers are preparing to unveil the man considered the best Japanese pitcher in MLB history.
The Los Angeles Dodgers are set to prepare the central plaza of Chavez Ravine once again to introduce their second reinforcement for the 2024 Major League Baseball season. A couple of weeks ago, Shohei Ohtani donned the Dodgers jersey for the first time in front of hundreds of journalists from around the world, and now it’s the turn of his compatriot, Yoshinobu Yamamoto.
Yamamoto presentation at Dodger Stadium
In true Hollywood spirit, where a good movie deserves a sequel, the Dodgers are gearing up to set the stage for presenting their new star. Yamamoto, considered the best pitcher to come to Major League Baseball from Japan, is the player in question.
The Los Angeles franchise announced that the presentation of the right-handed starter will take place on Wednesday 27 December at 3:00 Pacific Time (6:00 pm ET) in the central plaza. The timing aligns with Ohtani’s presentation, allowing Japanese fans to tune in for Yamamoto’s first words as a Dodgers player.
Yamamoto: biggest pitcher deal ever
The 25-year-old right-handed pitcher had several offers to consider and needed to make a decision before 4 January, the deadline for the winter market closure. Yamamoto will receive $325 million, and the Dodgers owe $50.6 million to his former team, the Orix Buffaloes.
This deal is the most lucrative contract ever received by a pitcher in the history of Major League Baseball. Previously, Gerrit Cole held the record when he signed with the New York Yankees for nine years in exchange for $324 million. It is anticipated that hundreds of media outlets from around the world will be present for Yamamoto’s introduction on 27 December.
