Hello

Where does the Jarred Kelenic’s huge 482-feet home run rank on the all-time list?

The Mariners outfielder just put his name among an elite group of heavy hitters and we’re betting it’s not going to be the last time he does so either.

With the hype that has surrounded this rising star in recent seasons, it’s about time we started to see some big things from him. His latest home run - a massive one at that - comes on the back of a string of impressive performances in these early days of the season. The question is, ‘can he keep it up?’

Jarred Kelenic hits huge home run at Wrigley Field

If you caught Wednesday’s game between the Seattle Mariners and the Chicago Cubs, then no doubt you got to see an impressive feat from the Mariners outfielder, Jarred Kelenic. Indeed with a .333/.405/.636 batting line and six extra-base hits in 10 games, Kelenic has got folks believing that his time has come. Yet, there is one number that Kelenic put on the board in his team’s 5-2 win that truly stood out and that’s the distance that he hit the ball for his third home run in as many games - 482 feet to be precise.

Now, while it’s true that the wind was blowing strongly at Wrigley Field on Wednesday, it’s not very often if at all that you see a player blasting the ball into the second deck of the center field bleachers. To be clear, Kelenic’s dinger is the longest by a Mariners player since Statcast launched back in 2015 and the second longest at Wrigley Field, with Willson Contreras having launched one 491 feet during Game 4 of the 2017 NLCS. As for this season, Kelenic’s home run is the second longest for the campaign so far. The Yankees’ Giancarlo Stanton has a slight edge with a 485-foot blast that he posted against the Giants. For a look at the longest HRs for this season take a look below:

  • Giancarlo Stanton, Yankees: 485 feet vs. Giants
  • Jarred Kelenic, Mariners: 482 feet vs. Cubs
  • C.J. Cron, Rockies: 479 feet vs. Cardinals
  • Austin Riley, Braves: 473 feet vs. Cardinals
  • Ryan Mountcastle, Orioles: 456 feet vs. Athletics

Obviously, it’s worth noting that at just 23-years-old Kelenic who was a top 10 prospect in both 2020 and 2021 still have a lot more to give. This after all is a player who has been demoted to Triple-A on several occasions and was at times even considered a failed talent. Yet, here we are today with an impressive hit streak and an even more impressive home run to boot.

What about the longest home runs in history?

As impressive as Kelenic’s home run was, it’s borderline humbling to understand that it doesn’t even rank in the top 10 of longest dingers in history. Indeed, such honors are held by some truly heavy hitters of the game, both past and present. Here’s a look at who they are:
