White Sox Lucas Giolito will miss at least two starts due to abdominal injury
After an early Opening Day exit, one of the top starting pitchers in MLB, Lucas Giolito, was placed on White Sox IL with an abdominal injury, joining Lance Lynn.
After leaving his start against the Detroit Tigers on Friday with just four innings because of abdominal tightness, Lucas Giolito was placed on the injured list on Saturday.
The Chicago White Sox star pitcher left the game with Chicago leading 3-0, and will miss at least two starts within the next few weeks, according to White Sox manager Tony La Russa.
Giolito allowed just one hit and two walks, striking out six before he made his early departure, which resulted in Chicago losing the game 5-4.
In each of his past three seasons, the 27-year-old ace has finished 11th or better in the American League Cy Young award voting. That includes his 2019 career-best sixth, when he received his first All-Star nod.
With 14 wins and 228 strikeouts that season, he set career highs, as he posted a 3.41 ERA and 1.06 WHIP.
White Sox without Lance Lynn, Lucas Giolito
Giolito’s unfortunate injury comes at a bad time for the White Sox as Lance Lynn is also already out following a right knee surgery, that’s keeping him out for more than four weeks.
With Chicago losing their undisputed ace, the White Sox will have to heavily rely on Dylan Cease, and get as much possible out of the talented Michael Kopech, who spent last season in the pen.
