With the 2023 MLB World Series underway, we take a look at the highest earners between the two teams. Both the Diamondbacks and the Rangers have increased their total payroll substantially since last year although neither feature among the top spenders. Between them there is a big difference in expenditure - according to Spotrac’s figures, the Texans’ total payroll has increased from $150,037,446 to $182,832,500 during the past year making them the ninth top spenders in the AL. That figure dwarfs the Diamondback’s budget, which is almost half - $103,763,571 for 2023 but still up from the $85,964,090 total from the previous year.

Join us for a look at which players are banking the big bucks when it comes to the Diamond and the Rangers.

Who makes the most money on the Rangers’ roster?

The Texas Rangers have gone through a fair amount of upheaval during the past 18 months, firing manager Chris Woodward in August 2022 with president of baseball operations Jon Daniels also moving on. The team still managed to finish second in AL West with a 90-72 record and seeing off Tampa Bay, the Orioles and the defending champions in the playoffs.

Bruce Bochy’s men will be hoping it will be third time lucky for the franchise who missed out in both of their previous World Series appearances - losing to the Giants in 2010 and the Cardinals the following year. While their wages bill is a fraction of the Mets’ and the Yankees’, Rangers’ star players still figure among the league’s top earners. Let’s take a look at how the best players on their roster measure up in terms of salary:

Max ScherzerP$43.3 million
Corey SeagerSS$35.5 million
Marcus Semien2B$26 million
Martín PérezP$19.65 million

The Diamondbacks have some high rollers as well

The Diamondbacks come way down the order in 21st on the MLB team payroll list. The franchise managed to cut costs after top earner Madison Bumgarner was released in April. Ketel Marte tops the wages bills - the Dominican showed why he is the team’s highest earner after making history in Game 2, taking his postseason hit streak to 18 - a new MLB record.
