Multiple Grammy Award winner Babyface is to sing the national anthem at Yankee Stadium today, ahead of Game 5 of the 2024 World Series.

The Los Angeles Dodgers take a 3-1 lead into tonight’s clash in the Big Apple, and remain one win away from clinching their eighth MLB title. Having established a 3-0 advantage in the best-of-seven series against the New York Yankees, the Dodgers missed the chance to seal a World Series whitewash when the Yankees earned an 11-4 win in Game 4 yesterday.

Chasing a record-extending 28th MLB championship, the Yankees are attempting to pull of an unprecedented feat: no team in the 121-year history of the World Series has ever recovered from 3-0 down to claim the championship.

Who is Babyface?

Babyface, whose real name is Kenneth Brian Edmonds, is a singer-songwriter and producer who has amassed 13 Grammys during a 50-year music career. As a performer, he has six top-10 hits on the Billboard Hot 100, with his 1994 single “When I Can See You” reaching No. 4. In all, the Indiana native - who founded his record label Soda Pop Records in 2009 - has written and produced 125 top-10 successes, according to his official website.

Who else has sung the national anthem in the 2024 World Series?

Country singer Brad Paisley sang “The Star-Spangled Banner” ahead of Game 1, before Game 2 saw teenager Pearle Peterson perform. This is the second year in a row that Peterson has been invited to sing the anthem at a World Series match-up. The Tony and Grammy-winning actor, singer and songwriter Leslie Odom was chosen for Game 3, before Ashanti - also a Grammy recipient - performed ahead of Game 4.
