Who is the bat boy who saved Shohei Ohtani?

In the Los Angeles Dodgers 4-0 win over the struggling Chicago White Sox on Wednesday night, there was a record setting moment for Shohei Ohtani when he broke the franchise consecutive-game RBI mark. But things could have gone very much downhill from there, were it not for an unnamed bat boy.

Kike Hernandez hit a foul ball in the top of the third that went screaming into the Dodgers dugout. Ohtani was getting prepared to go on deck and the ball made a bee line for him. Things could have been very hairy indeed.

But a bat boy wearing the number 94 had his Spidey-senses set to full tingle and snagged the ball and then casually handed it off to a fan behind the dugout.

Given that it is unsual for batboys to travel with teams, opting instead for a local person being chosen for the job, it is even more interesting that this one has been identified as long-time Dodgers employee Javier Herrera.

Ohtani certainly appeared more than pleased with the performance of the bat boy. And maybe the Dodgers should look at getting him into training camp. He could certainly handle the hot corner with skills like that.
