Who will be the captain of Mexico in the 2023 World Baseball Classic?
It will be the first time that Julio Urías of the Los Angeles Dodgers will represent Mexico professionally in baseball, and he will be the team’s captain.
Julio Urías, the left-handed pitcher who plays for the Los Angeles Dodgers, will captain Mexico in the World Baseball Classic, according to Rodrigo López, general manager of the Mexican National Team.
Urías is one of the most prominent Mexicans in the MLB in recent years, being World Series champion with the Dodgers in 2020.
“He was one of the first to raise his hand,”, commented López in an interview with Jon Morosi on MLB Network Radio, referring to the captaincy of the ninth Aztecs.
The numbers support Julio Urías
Urías has become the best Mexican pitcher in the Major Leagues. He was champion of games won in 2021, leader in ERA (2.16) of the National League in 2022, and finished third in NL Cy Young voting.

“It’s going to be something very nice (to represent the country). Mexico is everything to me,” Urías told SportsNet LA, official broadcaster of the Dodgers .
“The support I have from the countrymen is enough every day, not only in the country, but outside the country, like here in Los Angeles, I feel as if I were in Mexico,” said the pitcher.
This will be the first time that Culichi plays with the Mexican team at a professional level. In 2017, he had the intention of representing the country in the fourth edition of the World Classic, but the Dodgers management denied him permission since he was in the process of developing the ninth.
