The Los Angeles Dodgers cemented their status as a modern dynasty Saturday night at Rogers Centre, clinching their second consecutive World Series title with a thrilling Game 7 victory over the Toronto Blue Jays. The win marks the franchise’s ninth overall Major League Baseball championship.

At the heart of the celebration was 27-year-old Japanese ace Yoshinobu Yamamoto, who was named the 2025 Fall Classic MVP following a dominant postseason performance that culminated in a clutch outing in the decisive game.

Yamamoto’s wonderful World Series

Yamamoto, the cornerstone of Dave Roberts’ pitching staff throughout the series, delivered a complete-game win in Game 2, secured the victory in Game 6, and sealed the deal in Game 7 - earning the victory after Will Smith’s solo home run broke the deadlock. His ability to perform under pressure, especially on short rest, was nothing short of remarkable.

Having joined the Dodgers ahead of the 2024 season, Yamamoto now boasts two World Series rings in as many years. His 2025 campaign was defined by excellence on the mound, and his MVP honors are a testament to his resilience and dominance. Just one day after starting Game 6, Yamamoto returned to the mound in Game 7, entering in the ninth inning with one out and tasked with preserving a narrow lead after Blake Snell’s strong start.

Wearing jersey No. 18, Yamamoto pitched 2.2 innings of near-flawless relief, allowing just one hit, issuing one walk, and striking out one. The final out came in the 11th inning on a grounder by Mexico’s Alejandro Kirk, sparking jubilant celebrations from the Dodgers dugout.

Yamamoto finished the 2025 postseason with a 5-1 record, capping off a dream run that earned him the admiration of teammates and fans alike. His poise and power on the mound throughout the World Series made him the undisputed MVP.
