Will ICE be present at the 2026 World Baseball Classic?
Amid concerns by Latino fans given the current immigration climate in the U.S., Diario AS found that in Houston, at least for now, there are no signs of ICE.

The presence of immigration authorities has become one of the most widely discussed topics in the United States in recent months. Operations carried out by U.S. Immigration and Customs Enforcement (ICE) have sparked political and social debate in cities across the country. In some states, enforcement activity has increased, along with public discussions about its scope and impact on immigrant communities.

That context has led many Latino baseball fans to ask a specific question ahead of this month’s major international tournament. The start of the World Baseball Classic draws thousands of fans to U.S. venues, especially in a city with such a large Hispanic community as Houston. The concern has circulated widely on social media and in online forums.
Will ICE be present during the games?
For now, the answer appears to be no. There has been no official announcement regarding operations or the presence of the agency during the tournament.

In addition, Diario AS can report from Houston that, less than a day before the event begins, there are no ICE agents visible around the stadium or on nearby streets close to the complex where Group B games will take place. Walkthroughs of the area also found no visible vehicles or patrol units linked to the federal agency.
In the hours leading up to the tournament, the atmosphere around the area remains normal. Restaurants, bars, and local businesses are preparing for the arrival of fans from several countries, with no signs of special enforcement operations. Based on what can currently be observed on the ground, it also appears unlikely that ICE will be present on Friday, when Group B action gets underway.
As with any major international sporting event in the United States, event security is being handled by local authorities and the venue’s standard protocols. The tournament operates with coordination between organizers, local police, and stadium security staff. This structure is part of the standard planning for large-scale events with massive attendance.
The World Baseball Classic has established itself as the premier international tournament for national teams in baseball. This year’s edition continues with a format that includes venues in the United States and other countries, beginning with a group stage before moving into knockout rounds. The combination of Major League Baseball stars and standout players from international leagues turns every matchup into a high-level showcase.
Houston is preparing for several days of packed stadiums, flags in the stands, and an atmosphere that resembles a World Series with an international flavor. For now, the only focus on the field appears set to be baseball.
