Will MLB hold a Field of Dreams game in 2024?

One of the fan favorites and an instant classic, the MLB Field of Dreams game is on hold for this season, but not for long with any luck.

Update:

If you build it, he will come.

This is such a timeless and immortal statement, rooted in the American Dream, so succinctly outlining the purpose and destiny of a people. Almost impossible to believe that it was coined as recently as 1989 for the movie Field of Dreams.

That film, and that whisper, so touched the raw nerve endings of America, that it was without question that the scion of America’s sporting world, the guardians of the soul of the country, Major League Baseball, would play a game in the cornfields of Iowa.

MLB’s “Field of Dreams” game took two decades to come to fruition, but when it did, it instantly became a beloved tradition. Held in Dyersville, Iowa, fans and players alike can relive the nostalgia of baseball’s golden era amidst the cornfields of America’s heartland.

After the first event, in 2021, MLB brought it back the following year but 2023 saw construction work at the Iowa facility cancel the game. Now that construction is finished but what with MLB’s push abroad, Iowa has been left without a game in 2024.

Opting to expand their International Series from London to include Seoul, Mexico City, and the Rickwood Field game to honor the legacy of the Negro Leagues, Iowa was simply squeezed out for this season.

The popularity of the game will almost certainly see a return to Dyersville in the coming years, although no dates have been confirmed by MLB as yet. But while the beating heart of the modern game may lie in the Caribbean or the Far East, the reliquary of its very soul lies in a cornfield in Iowa.
