Will Vladimir Guerrero Jr. stay in Toronto?
The Dominican player stated his desire to remain with the Blue Jays for his entire career, although he acknowledged the MLB is a business.
The trade deadline for the 2024 Major League Baseball season is approaching, and one of the most popular names in the transfer reports is first baseman Vladimir Guerrero Jr. of the Toronto Blue Jays.
With this in consideration, the Dominican slugger declared for TSN that he wanted to stay in Toronto for his entire life. However, he knows that Major League Baseball is a business and hopes to be rewarded for his performance on the diamond.
“Man, I don’t want to leave. I want to be here my whole life, but this is business,” Guerrero said. “My time is going to come. I don’t know if it’s soon or not, but it’s going to come.”
Currently, the Dominican player plays with the Blue Jays under a salary of 19.9 million dollars, and in 2025, he will face the last year of salary arbitration. However, Guerrero seeks financial stability before reaching free agency in Toronto or another city.
The 25-year-old player has shone with the Blue Jays this season, with a batting average of .297 after connecting 98 hits in 330 at-bats. In addition, he has 13 home runs and has produced 50 runs. In terms of the strikeout-walk ratio, the Dominican is 59-39.
The teams linked to Vladimir Guerrero Jr.
The Houston Astros are one of the teams that urgently need a first baseman, both with the glove and the bat. Although they have had good performances from Jon Singleton, the improvement with Guerrero Jr. would be undeniable.
The Milwaukee Brewers are doing everything to win the National League Central division, but the one placed on the first base is the missing piece.
Due to Joey Ortiz’s injury, the Brewers are still using Tyler Black at the hot corner, and the first base responsibility falls to Rhys Hoskins, who has only had one hit in the last 12 at-bats.
