Yankees’ Aaron Judge named Player of the Week for the 10th time in his career

During this offseason, we all shared the same question: Could Aaron Judge maintain his level of performance with a hitter like Juan Soto in the lineup?

Concern increased when Judge got off to a slow start, hampered by an untimely injury that occurred in Spring Training. Although fans continued to trust in his talent, many questions arose around the figure of the captain of the Bronx Bombers. The question was whether he could return to his best form or if he would be forced to settle for a performance inferior to that of his spectacular seasons, more specifically that of 2022 when he managed to win the MVP award and broke the record for home runs (62) in the American League that dated back to Roger Maris’ time with the Yankees in 1961.

The Judge excels in May

Fortunately, those doubts have been dispelled. Judge's numbers this season are impressive. Despite the slow start, Judge posts a .267 batting average, a .405 on-base percentage and a .576 slugging percentage, accumulating a 2.3 fWAR.

The most important thing for the Yankees organization is that while Judge was not hitting, the rest of the team was and the pitching remained tight.

Judge was recognized as the offensive player of the week. And in the last seven days, the center fielder put up All-Star numbers.

In the last seven days Aaron Judge stepped up to the plate 27 times with 10 hits, seven runs scored and five RBIs. He had eight extra-base hits, including three home runs.

It is the tenth time in Judge’s career that he has been recognized as the Best Offensive Player of the Week.

In the last seven games, Aaron Judge has a batting line of .500/.625/1,208 w with four homers and seven RBIs.

Judge suffers poor April

The first month of the campaign Aaron Judge batted .220 with 22 hits, six home runs, 17 RBIs and 11 runs scored.

Judge was struggling a lot with speed pitches, something he was unforgiving about in the past and that was due to his lack of timing.

Judge’s Impact

Aaron Judge has been a fundamental piece for the Yankees since his MLB debut in 2016. His imposing physical presence and exceptional skills at the plate and in the field have made him one of the most feared and respected players in the industry.

In 2017, Judge was named American League Rookie of the Year and finished second in MVP voting. His ability to hit long home runs and his excellent plate discipline have been notable features of his game.

In 2022, Judge broke the American League record for most home runs in a season, surpassing Roger Maris’ previous mark with 62 home runs. This achievement not only cemented his place in Yankees history, but also raised his expectations for future seasons.
