Yankees activate their stars for Dodgers series
The Yankees are getting back to full strength with the return of Giancarlo Stanton, Josh Donaldson, and Tommy Kahnle for the weekend Dodgers series.
The New York Yankees (34-24) have struggled, occupying third place in a strong AL East as we head into June. They now face a strong Los Angeles Dodgers (34-23) in a crucial series as they try to close the gap on the Tampa Bay Rays.
The good news for the pinstripes is that they got back three of their star players who have been missing so far this season. The Yankees announced they have brought back outfielder Giancarlo Stanton, infielder Josh Donaldson, and pitcher Tommy Kahnle from stints in rehab.
Stanton, the quintessential Bronx Bombers designated hitter, has been out since April 15 with a torn left hamstring. Donaldson went down just ten days prior to that with the same injury, but in the right leg.
Kahnle hasn’t played this season at all, starting the season on the disabled list with biceps tendinitis. His return will serve to ease the burden on Clay Holmes and the other relievers who have worked around the clock in 2023.
In order to make space on the roster, the Yankees sent Oswaldo Cabrera, Francy Cordero, and Matt Crook to the Scrantos/Wilkes-Barre RailRiders, their Triple-A affiliate.

Carlos Rodón is still injured
Carlos Rodón, a two-time All-Star, signed a six-year, $162 million contract to be part of the Yankees’ starting rotation, but has been unable to debut due to a forearm injury that has only gotten worse over time.
The left-handed pitcher was placed on the 15-day disabled list beginning on Opening Day of the 2023 season with a left forearm strain which developed into a back strain. The Yankees have confirmed that Rodón’s absence will be a little while longer as he was placed on the 60-day list.
